皮革分为天然皮革(真皮)、再生皮革、人造革(pu/pvc)、真皮是牛、羊、猪、马、 鹿或某些其它动物身上剥下的原皮，经皮革厂加工后，制成各种特点、强度、手感、色彩、花 纹的皮具材料，是现代真皮制品的必须材料。真皮通常是由表皮层、真皮层、网状层、 皮下层等组成。其中，牛皮、羊皮和猪皮是制革所用原料的三大皮种。
一、了解牛皮，羊皮，猪皮三大皮种
1、牛皮
a.黄牛皮：毛孔细小而浅，呈圆形分布，均匀而紧密，毛孔较直而伸向里面，手感丰满，光滑光亮、柔 软、纹细，坚实富有弹性。（可分六层使用）
b.水牛皮：毛稀，毛根粗大而深，表皮厚，革面粗糙，质地较差。一般用于鞋底。
2、羊皮
a.山羊皮：面革纹络呈半圆的弧，弧上排列着2-4个针毛孔，周围有大量的细绒毛孔，毛孔呈鱼鳞状排列， 手感富有延伸性；
b.绵羊皮：革面平整光洁，皮板薄，毛孔细小，呈扁圆形，由几个毛孔组成一组、排成长列，颜色均匀一 致，革身丰满、柔软，富有延伸性，革里清洁，无油腻感，但强度较低。
3、猪皮
猪皮：面革粗糙，有明显的毛眼孔，呈三角形排列，弹性差，美观效果差，耐穿，牢固性强。
二、代用革（再生皮革和人造皮革）
1、再生革
把皮革的边角料、废料粉碎成纤维状，加植物纤维粘合剂及各种配合剂，压制成型而制成，多用于旅游鞋，皮带。由于生产再生革的原材料主要是天然皮革的废料，所以再生革有一定的吸湿性和透水、透气性，也有一定的耐热性、耐磨性和弹性，但强度小，撕裂性能差。
2、人造革
以纺织或针织材料为底基的合成树脂，属仿革制品，涂层材料以PVC树脂为主，光泽较亮，色泽鲜艳、多样，表面无伤痕痕迹。仿羊皮手 感外观似羊皮，细看无毛孔。
